Product and innovation leader

Hi, I’m Thomas Nelson.

I’m a strategic product and innovation leader with a builder’s perspective, shaped by a foundation in mechanical engineering, an MBA in Marketing, and a career spanning physical and digital products.

I connect customer insight, market opportunity, business priorities, and technical capabilities to identify exciting opportunities and turn them into products that work in real-world operations. My experience includes product development, managing five global portfolios representing more than $100 million in revenue, ownership of a $16 million P&L, product commercialization, and implementing enterprise AI-enabled platforms.

That gives me an end-to-end perspective, from discovery and business case through roadmap, development, launch, adoption, and continuous improvement.

My Story

My career has followed the complete product journey.

I started close to the product, designing physical components and learning how materials, manufacturing, cost, quality, and customer use shape what can actually be built. That foundation led to product management, marketing, commercialization, business leadership, digital platforms, and AI-enabled customer experiences.

The industries changed, but the work remained connected: understand the problem, see the whole system, align the people involved, and turn an opportunity into something real.

Insights to Impact

A clear thread from business ambition to aligned execution.

My 10-step market leadership process connects goals, customer insight, brand, differentiation, market influence, and the work each part of the organization must do.

It is not a static artifact. It is a living model that helps teams move faster without losing alignment.

Product Development

Build the right product. Prepare it to succeed.

New product development determines whether an organization is creating the right product. New product introduction determines whether that product can succeed in the real world.

My five leadership disciplines connect customer value, market opportunity, business viability, technical feasibility, validation, organizational readiness, launch, and continuous learning.
